Our Aims

At the heart of the Aphasia Café is confidence, communication, and community.

Communication and Skill Development

  • Give people with aphasia the chance to practise communication in small, supportive groups.

  • Encourage communication through activities where talking or expressing yourself is part of the fun, rather than the focus.

  • Use evidence-based techniques, guided by qualified speech and language therapists.

Community, Support, and Well-being

  • Help members connect more easily with family, friends, and the wider community.

  • Provide a welcoming space after formal therapy has ended.

  • Build friendships and enhance well-being through shared experiences.

  • Offer opportunities to try new activities as part of a broader “Living with Aphasia” programme.

Partner and Family Support

  • Create a space where partners and family members can share experiences and support each other.

  • Provide Conversation Partner Training (CPT) so partners feel more confident in everyday communication.
