What Happens at the Aphasia Cafe
Activities are chosen together with members and are designed to make communication part of the experience
Music and Harmonica
Playing harmonica helps with breath control, rhythm, and pitch.
These are skills linked to speech.
Even members with severe apraxia have found success and confidence through music.
Structured Practice
Conversation partner training is offered at first.
Sessions may include talking about family or holidays.
Therapists guide and support communication.
Guest Speakers and Visits
Mystery guests, museum trips, and short aphasia-friendly films give members fresh chances to communicate and connect.
Community Links
Some members have chaired aphasia conferences.
We encourage participation in the wider aphasia community, including the ‘Living with Aphasia’ conference.
